It seemed to be year of the pop-up in 2015. We had wonderful food in random locations from chefs that are now establishing themselves in permanent homes in the Birmingham food scene. To name but a few: Nathan Eades now Head Chef at Simpsons; Alex Claridge Chef Owner at The Wilderness (formally Nomad); Jamie Desogus Chef Owner at Harborne Kitchen (currently being built); Two Cats which has now been brilliantly reviewed in a national paper; and one of our favourite street food purveyors – Andy Low ‘n’ Slow, who is searching for a permanent spot to set up home. So far 2016 seemed to be significantly lacking in new offerings, and then up pops ‘A Lost Society’.
‘A Lost Society’ is run by chef Josh Porter, former chef de partie, and front of house manager Jade Hollingworth. In a fine dining environment they focus on foods from the 1920’s. Chef Josh said: “Whilst using classic techniques for the basis of the cooking there is also a hint of modern gastronomy to bring some of these timeless classics into the 21st century”.
